Level 0 BIM, also known as 2D CAD, is the first level of Building Information Modeling (BIM). It is a 2D representation of a building, created using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Level 0 BIM includes information about the building's geometry, such as its dimensions and shape. It may also include information about the building's materials and components.
Level 0 BIM is used in the early stages of the building design process, to help architects and engineers develop the building's concept and plan. It can also be used to create construction documents, such as blueprints and specifications.
One of the main problems with Level 0 BIM is that it is a 2D representation of a building. This means that it does not capture the full 3D geometry of the building, which can make it difficult to visualize and understand the building's design. Additionally, Level 0 BIM does not include information about the building's performance, such as its energy efficiency or sustainability.
As a result of these limitations, Level 0 BIM is gradually being replaced by higher levels of BIM, such as Level 2 and Level 3. These higher levels of BIM capture more information about the building, including its 3D geometry and performance. This makes them more useful for a wider range of applications, such as clash detection, 4D planning, and 5D costing.
Despite its limitations, Level 0 BIM is still a valuable tool for the building design process. It is relatively easy to create and use, and it can provide valuable information about the building's geometry and materials. However, as BIM technology continues to evolve, Level 0 BIM is likely to be replaced by higher levels of BIM that capture more information about the building.
